Dr. Rachel & Ezra
Rachel Malamed, DVM, DACVB
Rachel Malamed is a board certified veterinary behaviorist. First and foremost, she is Canadian, born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. She graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2005, and in 2010 completed a behavior residency at UC Davis. Currently, she has a behavior medicine speciality practice in LA. Dr. Rachel conducts housecalls and remote consultations, and takes on the occasional legal case as an expert witness.
There were two experiences that were really formative to Dr. Rachel’s decision to pursue a specialization in behavior medicine. The first was her Shih Tzu, Ezra (who you can find on her website and in a book chapter, or two). He was a gift from her parents for her 25th birthday, during her final year of vet school. It was her drive to “figure him out” and solve his behavior issues that inspired her to discover more about this specialty area and seek additional knowledge with regards to integrating the physical and emotional health of pets. Dr. Rachel's pursuit led to her second formative experience – an externship with Dr. Gary Landsberg in Toronto, who was a great mentor to her and continues to be a leader in the field of behavioral medicine.
Presently, Dr. Rachel is busy treating patients at behavior medicine practice in LA, and raising her two daughters (ages 9 and 11). And, if that isn't enough, she’ll be finishing up an MBA this December.
